STUDENT WORKERS ROCK THEATRE IN OPOSITION
Student workers rock theatre in opposition – ŠDRTVO is a conceptual musical and performative project from the 80s. Founded by two teenagers from a rural workers disctrict in Yugoslavia, right next to the border with Austria.
The main concept and driving force of the project was making something that is sonically differrent to anything else heard before, with complete disregard of traditional perceptions of music. Quite bold, if I do say so myself.
Even though ŠDRTVO (Student workers rock theatre in opposition) didn’t record much more than one calcium carbide explosion and a dozen similar ethnographic and acheologoic sounds, they made their mark on history, mostly by being featured on vynil compilations EX-YU Electronica.
The project is tied to the punk rock group CZD – Center za dehumanizacijo and throughout the 90s it had a meaningful influence on the slovenian – american vocal group Punkapella.
ŠDRTVO is a very influential musical project that did not necessarily try to get ito the eye of the public, hiding in the shadows, quietly judging those who forced themselves into the world of media and pop culture.
The song New World Order was recorded in 2011, the video was made in 2020.
They’ve also released a split LP which is availible at the link below:
